When the Huawei Mate 30 was presented at the end of September in Munich, many participants still expected a small miracle at the press conference. But it did not come – the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro had to do without Google Apps. The reason for this is the ongoing trade dispute between China and the US, which escalated in May 2019. In the spring, President Trump banned US companies from doing business with China. This in turn meant that Google Huawei was not allowed to license Android phones for new smartphones.
Does Trump relax the restrictions in the trade dispute?
But, according to the New York Times, the situation could ease soon. In order to show some accommodation in the context of the current talks between the two countries, the US government wants to allow President Trump to restart business with China for some US companies. Already in the last week Trump is said to have given the go-ahead in a meeting for the award of the trading licenses. A prerequisite, however, is that the companies concerned do not pose a security risk for the USA.
This development could give Google the opportunity to work with Huawei again. Despite the still until 19 November lasting grace period it was not possible for the Internet company to grant Android licenses to new devices of the manufacturer. The Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro came on the market in September without Google Apps.
However, the objection of the security risk remains for the US. Trump always emphasized that he does not trust Huawei in handling data. He accuses the company of spying on the network technology used by network operators worldwide for the operation of mobile networks. The limitations in Huawei’s smartphone business were just a side effect of events, but bitter for Huawei.
European start of the Huawei Mate 30 is approaching
So far, the Huawei Mate 30 is available in only a few markets. In Europe, it is officially not yet. Nevertheless, the new smartphone is already one of the best devices – not least because of its excellent camera equipment. So it’s not surprising that users in this country are eagerly awaiting the launch. But only a Mate 30 with Google apps has a chance in Germany. So, if the apps really get on the new models soon, the Mate 30 series could become a bestseller.
