Samsung amazes cell phone users: Nobody expected this software update

Last updated on March 9, 2021

Samsung surpasses itself once again. Actually, this Android smartphone has long been on the sidelines. Nevertheless, the South Korean company is releasing a software update again – to the amazement of all owners.

Samsung Galaxy S7 receives September update

It's hard to believe, but the Samsung Galaxy S7, which was officially launched in early 2016, actually received a software update at the end of 2020. Over four years after launch. This is not only absolutely remarkable, it also exceeds all expectations that were previously placed on Samsung . Owners of the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge will receive the September 2020 update with some optimizations – reports SamMobile . It also closes security gaps, making the smartphone more secure again. So it can still be used without any problems. The software update will initially be distributed in Great Britain and Canada, but should also appear in other countries soon.

Samsung proves once again that Android phones will be supported even longer than it has appeared in recent years. The company recently issued an update guarantee for selected smartphones, which guarantees three years of system upgrades and four years of security updates, but that did not apply to Galaxy phones that were so old. That's why this update is a real surprise – especially since the support even exceeds the four years. It is quite possible that selected models that have been used frequently over the years will receive updates for even longer.

Android 11 is just around the corner

Of course, Samsung will not release an update to Android 11 for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Only newer models such as the Galaxy S10 or Galaxy S20 receive this privilege. Nevertheless, the company is not trying to just install a new version on the mobile phone, but rather to offer added value every time with One UI. So also with Android 11 and One UI 3.0, where a function is integrated that we have longed for . Overall, Samsung's update policy is not very quick, but constant. As soon as Android 11 is released for newer Samsung phones, we will let you know.
