Xiaomi's success story continues: The cell phone manufacturer has now achieved a sensation that few expected. The victim is none other than Apple. The counter-attack by the US group is already becoming apparent.
The mobile communications market is apparently facing a fundamental restructuring, as Android Authority reports, citing figures from market researchers at IDC . In the third quarter of 2020, Samsung was able to take the lead again with a market share of 21.8 percent. Meanwhile, Huawei was number 1 . Due to the tough US sanctions, however, the Chinese were unable to defend the gold medal. More interesting than the fight for the top is a look at third place.
Xiaomi beats Apple and is the third largest cell phone manufacturer
Xiaomi can now be found there. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the company increased its market share significantly from 9.1 percent to 13.1 percent. With this, the electronics company narrowly prevailed against Apple, which has now slipped to fourth place and is therefore no longer on the podium. The iPhone manufacturer has to be satisfied with a slightly reduced market share of 11.8 percent.
Above all, the strong performance in India helped Xiaomi displace Apple from third place, they say. But Xiaomi's success in Europe may also have contributed to this. Xiaomi recently opened its first store in Germany in Düsseldorf and is putting the competition under pressure with price-performance hits like the Xiaomi Poco C3 .

Xiaomi faces tough battle
It remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will be able to defend the bronze medal in the next few months. Traditionally, Apple can grow significantly in the fourth quarter of the year, since iPhones are a welcome Christmas present. With the iPhone 12 generation, this year there are also four new models of the cult cell phone on offer, which cover different price and size ranges. A new design and interesting features such as 5G and MagSafe are also included. So Xiaomi faces an uphill battle.
