Amazon Schedules Its Fall Hardware Event For September 28

Amazon has announced the date for its 2022 fall hardware launch event. The retail and smart home giant will unveil its next-gen products and services on Wednesday, September 28. The company has sent out media invites for the virtual, invite-only event that kicks off at 9 AM PT /4 PM GMT, The Verge reports.

Amazon’s media invites don’t mention much about what’s in store. The company will announce new devices, features, and services but we can’t precisely tell what they are. There haven’t been any leaks either. But we can still make some calculated guesses based on its past fall events and its existing smart home device portfolio.

Last year, Amazon launched an Echo Show smart display, Alexa-powered robot Astro, Halo View fitness band, Amazon Glow, Ring Always Home Cam, Ring Alarm Pro, Alexa-enabled smart thermostat, and more products and services. Some of these devices may get updated this year. Additionally, we are also expecting new Echo smart speakers next week. There weren’t any last year. The latest model in the lineup, the Echo (4th Gen), was launched in 2020.

As The Verge notes, Amazon has yet to close the deal for its acquisition of Roomba robot vacuum maker iRobot. The acquisition is currently under the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) scrutiny. So there may not be any announcements about the company’s potential new product category — robot vacuums. We will certainly let you know if there is any.

Amazon may still some thunder from Google’s fall event

Amazon’s September 28 launch of new Echo and Rings products may steal some thunder from Google’s next-gen Nest smart home devices. The latter has its fall hardware event scheduled for Thursday, October 6. Along with the Pixel 7 series smartphones and the first-gen Pixel Watch, the search giant will also unveil new Nest products at the event. The Wi-Fi 6E-enabled Nest Wifi Pro and a wired Nest Doorbell are among the probable candidates to come out through Google’s door in a couple of weeks. There may be more. We will find out soon.

Unlike Amazon, Google is letting some invited members of the press attend its launch event in person. Moreover, you can also live stream the event on YouTube. Amazon, meanwhile, is keeping its virtual event accessible only to the invited press members. You cannot watch it live unless you are invited. But rest assured, we will have full coverage of all the announcements from both events here at Android Headlines, so stay tuned.
