Discord launches server subscriptions for server owners

Discord server subscriptions are now in place, allowing server owners to add a subscription to their server for users to become a part of it. This new feature makes it possible to bring in some extra income and can be a nice little way earn supplemental income on the side. The nice thing here is that it provides server owners with an opportunity to make some cash.

But don’t just go thinking you can slap a subscription on your server and the money starts rolling in. Like with any service you use that allows you to tack a subscription onto it, you need to provide some value for the subscribers. A reason to keep them coming back and engage. And in a sense, Discord adding server subscriptions is meant to be a way for content creators to monetize their content.

With that in mind, you won’t be able to add a subscription to just any server. There are some rules that Discord has set in place.

Discord server subscriptions are only for communities

If you want to monetize your server, you need to identify it as a community. That’s the first step. Beyond that, you’ll want to come up with rewards. Or some sort of benefits that give people a reason to spend their money. There are some other requirements that need to be met as well.

Firstly, the server owner has to be located in the US. Discord says the new feature is only available to US server owners at the moment. Though it surely has plans to expand this to other regions. In due time. The server also has to be in a good standing with Discord. That means no recent violations of the terms of service.

Lastly, Discord has updated its Monetization Terms & Creator Monetization Policy. Server owners will need to agree to that. If all of those things are in place, and your server is listed as a community, then you’re on the right track. Those who want to take advantage of this new revenue opportunity should take a peek at Discord’s new Creator Portal. This serves as a useful tool with some tips on how to make the best use of the new subscriptions and potentially turn out some new monthly revenue.
