Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has already been in the news lately but now rumors suggest it could arrive in a phone for consumers as early as November. That’s based on a recent tweet from prominent Android and Samsung, specifically, leaker Ice Universe.
The original tweet, embedded below, doesn’t go into much detail. Qualcomm is unsurprisingly said to be working hard to get the new chipset into production. And, given the advantages it is slated to bring over its predecessor, OEMs are purportedly prepping to put it in their next-gen flagships. The new chip, by the way, is expected to be around 15 percent more efficient than its predecessor.
What’s the latest on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and which phone will be the first to use it?
At least some initial speculation can be drawn with consideration for the tweet’s source, of course. Given that Ice Universe has largely focused on Samsung, that is. But Samsung doesn’t typically launch new handsets in November, let alone new flagships.
Those companies that do include Oppo, ASUS, Vivo, Poco, and other Chinese OEMs. So chances are, that’s who will launch a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone first if it does launch in the leaked timeframe.
In terms of the chip itself, the exact details aren’t known, as of this writing. Previous rumors hint at a new core configuration. Specifically, a first-of-its-kind quad-cluster arrangement. That would, if rumors hold true, consist of one Cortex-X3 core, two Cortex-A720 and Cortex-A710 cores, and three Cortex-A510 cores. Those cores are listed in descending order by performance. With the Cortex-A510 CPU cores being built around efficiency.
Coupled with improved efficiency overall, there is a lot to be drawn from that, if accurate. Namely, this chipset would be incredibly powerful when needed. But the use of three efficient cores could also point toward a much better battery life. At the very least for those who don’t always use or need all of that power.
The latest news I’ve got is that Qualcomm is seriously working on the Snapdragon 8Gen2, it must be a very impressive chip with great power efficiency, and all Android manufacturers are actively Prepare for it, and there is even a possibility of a new phone being launched in Nov
