How to change your Netflix plan

Unlike most other streaming services out there, Netflix actually offers a slew of different plans that you can choose from. Allowing you to save money, see ads, add more simultaneous streams and better picture quality. Plans currently range from $6.99 per month to $19.99 per month, as of January 2023.

So today, we are going to show you how you can change your plan over on Netflix. The company does make it pretty easy to switch up plans, so that’s a good thing. And you’ll need to do it on Netflix’s website. Unfortunately, you can’t do it from the app.

Netflix plans and pricing

As mentioned, Netflix currently has four plans (it has plans to add more, actually). In the table below, you’ll see a quick explainer on the four plans and how they compare to each other.

Netflix Plan Price Resolution Streams
Basic with Ads $6.99/month 720p 1
Basic $9.99/month 720p 1
Standard $15.49/month Up to 1080p Up to 2
Premium $19.99/month Up to 4K Up to 4

For a family, the Premium plan is definitely the best bet, since it gives you up to four simultaneous steams at once. But it is quite pricey, more than even HBO MAX without ads. So you might want to drop down to the Standard or Basic plans. There’s not a lot of 4K content on Netflix right now, so you won’t be missing much by going to Standard.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Basic with Ads plan does not include Netflix’s entire library. This is because their licensing agreements with most studios only cover content being shown without ads. It’s a separate license for showing alongside ads. So you’ll mostly get Netflix original content on that plan.

How to change your Netflix plan

Changing your Netflix plan is pretty easy. Here’s how you can do it.

Firstly, log into Netflix.

Not click on your Account Settings.

Then click on Change Plan.

Here, you’ll see a list of plans that you can choose from. Select the plan you want to change to.

Now click on Continue. Then click on Confirm.

You will remain on your current plan until the end of your billing cycle, then be moved onto the new plan. This is because Netflix doesn’t prorate, so if you moved to a cheaper plan, Netflix would need to refund you a few bucks. But this way, they don’t have to deal with refunds, or credits.

And that’s it. That’s how you can change your Netflix plan.
