The 5G auction in Sweden cannot take place on Tuesday. The exclusion from the Huawei is controversial.

The Swedish regulatory authority Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) has to postpone the 5G auction planned for Tuesday. The authority announced this on 9 November 2020 . Huawei had previously obtained an injunction against the exclusion. The network operators Tele2 and Telenor had also requested the regulatory authority to postpone the 5G auction. Sweden’s regulatory authority had ordered all participants in the auction to upgrade Huawei and ZTE equipment in their existing network by 2025. The decision by PTS was made in “consultation with the Swedish armed forces and the Swedish Security Service in order not to harm Sweden’s security”. Certain parts of PTS’ decision prior to the upcoming 5G auction will not apply until further notice, the Stockholm Administrative Court announced in a decision. “The Administrative Court has concluded that Huawei has the right to appeal against the PTS decision,” Judge Johan Lundmark said in the court’s statement. The auctions are about the 3.5 GHz and 2.3 GHz band. Up to 15 nationwide licences in the 3.5 GHz band (3400 MHz -3720 MHz) are auctioned off, covering a maximum of 320 MHz of frequencies. One licence will receive 40 MHz frequencies, while the 14 others will only have 20 MHz. The minimum bid is SEK 100 million (EUR 9.4 million) and the total bid is SEK 1.5 billion (EUR 140.3 million).
