Samsung’s Galaxy A Series Is Bringing Budget-Friendly 5G To The US

Last month, Samsung broke cover with its 2021 Galaxy A smartphones and now the company is revealing more details about the series, specifically for the US. The Samsung phones in question effectively cover the gamut from the budget to the mid-tier flagship. And that includes the Samsung Galaxy A02s, Galaxy A12, Galaxy A32 5G, Galaxy A42 5G, and Galaxy A52 5G.

The latter devices are all aimed at making 5G affordable in the region. The former two are meant to bring the perks and experience of OneUI to those who don’t need flagships. This run of Samsung Galaxy A series handsets has something for everybody in the US.

Samsung wants to bring 5G to every user with its Galaxy A series

The first of the new US-ready Samsung Galaxy A series handsets up for discussion is the Galaxy A32 5G. Not only does the new handset offer great visuals, cameras, battery, and other premium features. It’s also going to be the most affordable Galaxy A series smartphone to date, offering sub6 connectivity.

Samsung coupled that with a 6.5-inch display at 90Hz. And that’s an Infinity-V notched HD+ display panel as well. So users can see Android 11, as with the other handsets in the new 5G A series devices, in all of its glory.

Stepping up a notch from there is the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G, featuring a 6.6-inch HD+ Infinity-U display panel. Now, the Galaxy A42 5G also only features a refresh rate of 60Hz but this is a Super AMOLED panel. The phone also features double the storage capacity of the Galaxy A32 5G. With a processor that’s closer to the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G. And with an optical fingerprint scanner similar to that found on the Galaxy A52 5G.

That’s as opposed to the capacitive scanner on the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G.

What’s more, the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G supports mmWave, in addition to sub6 connectivity. So, among the phones detailed today, it’s going to be capable of the fastest mobile connections.

Last, but not least, among Samsung’s new 5G offerings is the Galaxy A52 5G. While there are some commonalities between each of these devices, Samsung Galaxy A52 5G steps well away from others in the US-ready A series in several regards. Not least of all, this handset has an IP67 water- and dust-resistance rating. And it’s led by a 64-megapixel snapper instead of a 48-megapixel camera.

On the display side of the equation, Samsung equipped the Galaxy A52 5G with a 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O display panel. That’s got a 120Hz refresh rate. A 4,500mAh battery is installed to keep that display running all day long too, with 25W charging enabled. That’s as compared to the 15W charging on its counterparts.

Storage and RAM are better with Galaxy A52 5G as well. Those are set at 6GB and 128GB, respectively.

…and something for everybody else too

As with the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G, Samsung’s Galaxy A12 has already broken cover too. But, for the Samsung Galaxy A series US announcement, that handset is joined by the Galaxy A02s.

Now, both of these Samsung Galaxy A series budget phones have the same display size, type, and refresh rate, with a similar overall profile and weight. But where they differ is on the processor, cameras, RAM, connectivity, and sensors. For instance, the Galaxy A12 ships with a fingerprint scanner on board and Bluetooth 5.0. While the Galaxy A02s does not and features Bluetooth 4.2.

The more expensive of the two handsets also packs 3GB RAM compared to the latter device’s 2GB. Although both ship with 32GB expandable storage.

In terms of power, both of the Samsung Galaxy A budget handsets are driven by an octa-core processor. The Samsung Galaxy A12 features a more powerful chip though, with cores at 2.3GHz and 1.8GHz. The Galaxy A02s handsets only come with an octa-core 1.8GHz SoC. But that should be more than enough for day-to-day use, coupled with an all-day-and-then-some 5,000mAh battery.

Similarly, the Samsung Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A02s ship with 16-megapixel and 13-megapixel quad- and triple-cameras, respectively. With a respective 8-megapixel and 5-megapixel selfie-snapper.
