Tons of major sites go down, causing outages around the world

Mitja Rutnik / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • Multiple major sites and services are facing an internet outage at the moment.
  • Steam, Disney, Amazon, LastPass, and many other prominent services are either totally down or going in and out of service.
  • The content distribution network Akamai is thought to be the source of the issue.

If you are trying to visit some of the largest sites and services on the ‘net right now, and coming up short, you’re not alone. Some of the biggest names in gaming, entertainment, shopping, and security are out of service completely, while some others are going up and down.

The internet outage is thought to be connected to the content distribution network (CDN) Akamai (via CNBC). If you track service issues for that company, it says there are problems with the Edge DNS service. This would affect nearly all the company’s clients, which include Steam, Disney, Amazon, PlayStation, UPS, LastPass, and even GoDaddy.

We will keep this page updated as new details emerge.
