WSL, Ikea, Google: Anything else?

What else happened on October 30, 2020 in addition to the big news, in a nutshell.

WSL easy to install: As announced, the Windows subsystem for Linux is now even easier to install via the command line. The current insider builds of Windows bring the options for selecting other distributions to the command line.

Intel buys SigOpt: With the acquisition of SigOpt , Intel wants to strengthen its software team for machine learning and artificial intelligence. The purchase price was not mentioned.

Important update for Ikea’s smart home app: Ikea’s smart home system cannot cope with the time change. All scheduled tasks run according to daylight saving time and not according to winter time. The error was corrected with an update of the Android app. The current version of the Trådfri app is available in the Play Store . The Trådfri app has not yet been updated for Apple devices.

Website to video: Google is currently working on an AI system that can summarize the content of websites in videos. In URL2Video, images, text style and other elements are taken and then merged into a suitable animation. This should help to create inexpensive tutorial or promotional videos for websites.

FreeBSD 12.2 released: The current version 12.2 of the free operating system FreeBSD allows running Linux in a jails environment. The team has also improved WiFi support and implemented various package updates. The release notes list all new features.
